If you
are intending to import a vehicle into Canada, first make
sure it is admissible and can be modified to meet Canadian
standards by checking the Registrar of Imported Vehicles website.
www.riv.ca
You will need a bill of sale, original certificate of title,
last copy of registration, NAFTA (if applicable), Salvage
certificate (if applicable) and a recall clearance letter
from the original manufacturer or dealer.
U.S. Customs requires 72 hours prior notice of all vehicles
permanently exported from the U.S.A.
When you
have all your documents and the vehicle title has been surrendered
to U.S. Customs, the vehicle can be imported into Canada.
A Form 1 will be prepared at the border and submitted to the
RIV to indicate a vehicle has been imported. Once the Form
1 fee has been paid by the importer to the RIV, a Form 2 will
be issued. The required modifications must be made within 45
days and then the vehicle must be presented for inspection.

information can be found on the Registrar of Imported Vehicles

Note: The fee structure for imported vehicles has been revised. The changes will take effect on November 1, 2005. View the new structure here.
